Hama Hat of Horrors ~ Designed by Lorraine Dore

This hat is dedicated to Lorraine’s niece who provided the Hama beads.

Use No 9 (3.75 mm) knitting needles and double knitting wool

b – add bead, Slip stitch on to a hair grip shaped piece of wire. Feed bead on wire then stitch. Slip stitch on to other knitting needle (do not knit stitch with bead).

You could use cut up plastic straws instead of Hama beads.

Square design:
36 Hama beads
Leaving at least 12 inches of wool to sew up, cast on 28 stitches,
Knit 5 rows
Purl 1 row
Row 7 – *k2, b* repeat 8 times, k1
Row 8 – k1, *p1, k2* repeat 8 times, k2
Row 9 – k
Row 10 – p
Repeat rows 7, 8, 9 and 10 three more times
Cast off knit wise.
To make up – fold in half to form a square, beads inside. Sew two edges together.

27 Hama beads
Leaving at least 12 inches of wool to sew up, cast on 28 stitches,
Knit 5 rows
Purl 1 row
Row 7 – *k2, b* repeat 8 times, k1
Row 8 – k1, *p1, k2* repeat 8 times, k2
Row 9 – k
Row 10 – p
Repeat rows 7, 8, 9 and 10 two more times
Row 19 – k 2 tog across row (14 sts)
Row 20 – p 2 tog across row (7 sts)
To make up – cut wool leaving a tail of 12 inches, thread sewing needle and slip through stitches pull up and sew down edge.
